Gary Bowman was born fifty years ago in Manchester, England. At the age of six his family moved to Toronto, Canada. There he began betting as a teenager, playing cards and wagering on everything from snooker and soccer to horses and hockey. Then, after a time playing gin rummy in Miami Beach, Bowman moved to London. "From that day I never looked back," he says, "London was a gamblers paradise. I wasn't treated as some kind of outlaw or outcast in society because I was a gambler. I was part of the culture." By 1985 Bowman had already launched American Football Pools, correctly anticipating the global interest in sports betting.
